Anegada is the odd one out among the British Virgin Islands — flat, coral-built rather than volcanic, and ringed by Horseshoe Reef, one of the largest barrier reefs in the Caribbean and a notorious ship-wrecker for centuries. With a population of a few hundred and beaches like Loblolly Bay that routinely sit empty, it's reachable only by small plane or ferry, which keeps it that way. The island's other claim to fame is its grilled lobster, served at a handful of beachfront shacks during a season that runs roughly from September to May.

Traveler reviews

★★★★★

Loblolly Bay was completely empty when we visited — just us, the sand, and incredible snorkelling right off the beach. Felt like a different era of Caribbean travel.

★★★★★

The grilled lobster at one of the beach shacks was the best I've had anywhere, and watching it being cooked right on the beach made it even better.

Sandra P. · December 2023
★★★★☆

Took a day trip by boat from Tortola and wished we'd stayed longer — the reef diving was fantastic and the island has a wonderfully remote feel.
