Badlands National Park is a sudden, dramatic landscape of layered rock spires, canyons and buttes rising out of the South Dakota prairie, eroded into stripes of colour that shift with the light. Beyond the scenery, it protects one of the richest fossil beds in the world and some of the last black-footed ferrets and free-roaming bison herds on the Great Plains.
