When is the best time to visit Banff?
June to September offers the best access to hiking trails and the iconic lakes, though it's also the busiest period. Winter (December-March) is excellent for skiing at the area's three resorts.
Do I need to book Moraine Lake and Lake Louise in advance?
In peak season, parking is extremely limited and often requires a shuttle reservation or early arrival before sunrise — planning ahead is essential.
Is Banff walkable?
Banff town itself is small and walkable, but Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and most trailheads require a car or shuttle.
What wildlife might you see?
Elk are common around town, and with luck you may spot bighorn sheep, black bears or grizzlies from a safe distance along roads and trails.
