About Ella
The Nine Arch Bridge arches gracefully above a green valley where the Colombo-Badulla railway train crosses daily in perfect aesthetic—an engineering feat disappearing into forest. Ella clings to a tea plantation slope; rolling hills of tea extend to the horizon. Waterfalls cascade nearby; the village remains charmingly low-key.

Traveler reviews
★★★★★
The train ride in from Nuwara Eliya was as good as everyone says — green tea hills rolling past the open doorways. Watching a train cross the Nine Arch Bridge from a nearby tea stall was a highlight.

Hiked Little Adam's Peak at sunrise for the view over the valley, then spent the afternoon relaxing in one of the many cafes. A really easy, pleasant place to slow down for a couple of days.

Ella Rock was a longer, sweatier hike than expected but the view at the top over the surrounding hills and tea plantations was worth it. Very busy with other travelers but a fun, social atmosphere.
