Granada is Nicaragua's most visited colonial city, its grid of pastel-coloured houses and church spires sitting on the shores of vast Lake Nicaragua, within easy reach of the still-smoking Masaya Volcano and the climbable cone of Mombacho. Horse-drawn carriages still clatter past the cathedral on the main plaza, and boat trips weave through the Isletas, hundreds of tiny islands just offshore.
