Kangaroo Island sits off the coast of South Australia as one of the country's great wildlife havens, where sea lions haul up on the sand at Seal Bay and koalas doze in the gums of Hanson Bay. The dramatic granite boulders of Remarkable Rocks and the wind-carved arch of Admirals Arch sit within Flinders Chase National Park, much of which was affected by bushfires in 2020 but has since regenerated strongly.

Traveler reviews

★★★★★

Seal Bay was incredible — being able to walk so close to wild sea lions with a ranger guide felt really special and well managed.

Phoebe G. · November 2023
★★★★★

Remarkable Rocks at sunset were exactly as dramatic as the photos suggest. Saw the regrowth from the 2020 fires too — nature bouncing back impressively.

Will H. · February 2024
★★★★☆

Spotted koalas within minutes at Hanson Bay's night walk. Distances on the island are bigger than they look on the map, so plan driving time carefully.
