The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the few glaciers on Earth still advancing, a 5km-wide wall of blue-white ice that periodically calves enormous chunks into Lago Argentino with a sound like thunder. Viewing platforms in Los Glaciares National Park put you remarkably close to the action, and on a clear day the contrast between the ice, the turquoise lake, and the Patagonian steppe is almost overwhelming.
