How long do I need to see Pompeii?
Allow at least half a day; the site is huge, and a guided tour helps make sense of what would otherwise be a sprawling maze of ruins.
Can I visit Pompeii from Naples or Sorrento as a day trip?
Yes — both are connected by the Circumvesuviana train line, making Pompeii an easy half-day or full-day excursion from either base.
Is Herculaneum worth visiting too?
Yes — smaller and better preserved than Pompeii in some respects, with multi-storey buildings still standing, and it's on the same train line.
