San Andrés is a small Colombian island deep in the Caribbean, far closer to Nicaragua than the mainland, ringed by a lagoon of seven shades of blue that gives the surrounding sea its famous nickname. Duty-free shopping and all-inclusive resorts dominate the main town, but a ring road around the island leads to quieter coves, reggae-inflected Raizal culture and some of the Caribbean's better snorkelling close to shore.
