Lion Rock fortress rising from jungle plains

About Sigiriya

Lion Rock rises 370 metres vertically from the plains, its summit once holding a 5th-century palace now preserved as ruins among eagles and clouds. The first-mirror wall at midheight reflects ancient graffiti carved by visitors a millennium ago. Moats, gardens, and guardstones surround the base; the ascent is steep and rewarding.
