The pyramids of Teotihuacán, just outside Mexico City, were once the heart of one of the largest cities in the ancient world, and the Pyramid of the Sun remains one of the largest structures ever built in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Walking the length of the Avenue of the Dead between the Pyramid of the Moon and the Ciudadela gives a real sense of the scale of the city that thrived here over a thousand years ago.
