About Tobago

Tobago is quieter than its sister island Trinidad—a teardrop of green where rainforests tumble to white sand beaches and coral reefs remain pristine. Pigeon Point's crescent beach is Caribbean postcard-perfect, while the island's interior offers hiking through protected forest. The locals embrace Rastafarian culture more openly here, and the vibe is refreshingly laid-back.

Tobago is Trinidad's quieter sibling, trading Carnival chaos for rainforest-backed beaches, the world's oldest protected rainforest, and some of the Caribbean's best diving around Speyside and Charlotteville. Pigeon Point's iconic thatched jetty and turquoise shallows draw the postcard crowd, but much of the island remains wonderfully undeveloped, with fishing villages and birdlife-rich forest trails dominating the north.

Traveler reviews

★★★★★

Pigeon Point is every bit as stunning as the photos. We also did a rainforest walk in the Main Ridge Reserve which was full of birdlife.

The diving at Speyside was incredible — saw manta rays on two separate dives. Charlotteville is a beautifully unspoiled village.

★★★★☆

Much quieter and greener than I expected for the Caribbean. A great combination with a few days in Trinidad for Carnival.
