Val d'Isere combines a charming, partly traditional Savoyard village centre with some of the most extensive and reliable high-altitude skiing in the Alps, linked to Tignes via the Espace Killy to form a vast shared ski area. Its history as an Olympic downhill venue (1992) shows in the quality and variety of its pistes, while a buzzing apres-ski scene keeps things lively well after the lifts close.
