Xochimilco preserves a network of canals and floating gardens on the southern edge of Mexico City, a remnant of the chinampa farming system used by the Aztecs. Brightly painted trajinera boats, often hired with food, drinks and mariachi bands aboard, drift along the waterways past floating flower farms in a scene unlike anywhere else in the capital.
