Horseshoe Bend is a dramatic, near-360-degree meander of the Colorado River carved 1,000 feet below a sandstone overlook just outside Page, Arizona. A paved trail of around three-quarters of a mile leads from the car park to the rim — short but exposed, with no shade and a sheer, unfenced drop, making it a quick but memorable stop, especially around sunset.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Horseshoe Bend?
Sunrise or sunset for the best light and cooler temperatures; midday in summer can be extremely hot with no shade on the trail.
How long is the walk to the viewpoint?
About three-quarters of a mile (1.2 km) each way on a paved path, with some sandy and uphill sections.
Is there an entrance fee?
Yes, there's a small per-vehicle fee for the car park, managed by the city of Page.
Is it safe for children?
The overlook has no fencing and a sheer drop, so supervision is essential — it's manageable but requires care, especially near the edge.
Can I combine it with other nearby sights?
Yes — it's just a few minutes from Page, making it easy to combine with Antelope Canyon tours or a Lake Powell visit.
Traveler reviews
★★★★★
Went for sunset and the colours on the canyon walls and river were incredible — the walk is short but there's zero shade so go prepared with water.

Quick stop on the way to Antelope Canyon — well worth the short walk, though it was scorching hot in the afternoon.

★★★★★
One of the most striking views I've seen for so little effort — just be careful near the edge as there's no barrier at all.
