About Lake Balaton
Lake Balaton is Central Europe's largest freshwater lake—a 77-kilometer-long summer playground where Hungarians congregate in July and August to escape the heat. The northern shore is more developed (beach resorts, restaurants), while the southern shore offers quieter coves and wine villages. The water is warm enough for swimming, the beaches are golden, and the surrounding countryside produces excellent Balaton wine.
