Leticia is Colombia's gateway to the Amazon, a riverside town at the meeting point of Colombia, Brazil and Peru where the only way in or out is by river or by air. From here, jungle lodges, indigenous community visits and wildlife-spotting trips into Amacayacu National Park reach a part of the Amazon basin notably less developed for tourism than its Brazilian or Peruvian counterparts.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Leticia?
June to October is the lower-water season with more exposed beaches and trails; December to May brings higher water and easier access by boat to flooded forest.
How do you get to Leticia?
There are no roads connecting Leticia to the rest of Colombia — flights from Bogotá are the main access route, or river boats from Peru and Brazil.
Can you visit Brazil and Peru from Leticia?
Yes — the tri-border area means short boat or taxi rides reach Tabatinga (Brazil) and Santa Rosa (Peru), often without formal border checks for day visits.
What wildlife might you see?
Pink river dolphins, caimans, monkeys and a huge range of birdlife are commonly spotted on guided river and jungle excursions.
Do you need vaccinations to visit?
Yellow fever vaccination is generally recommended for the Amazon region — check current requirements with a travel health provider before visiting.

Traveler reviews

★★★★★

Spotting pink dolphins near Puerto Nariño at sunrise, with mist still rising off the river, was one of the most memorable mornings of our whole South America trip.

★★★★☆

It's remote in a way that's hard to convey — no roads at all, just river and jungle in every direction.

Greta H. · February 2024
★★★★☆

A jungle lodge stay with a local indigenous guide gave us a totally different perspective on the Amazon than the more commercial spots elsewhere.
